Picasso’s Universe: The Vollard Suite
23 March to 30 June 2019
With the exhibition Picasso’s Universe: The Vollard Suite, the Kunsthalle is showing a monographic exhibition of the artist for the first time in Kiel since 1973. Picasso’s famous set of prints, the Vollard Suite, comprises 100 etchings, which he produced between 1930 and 1937 at the suggestion of the Parisian art dealer and publisher, Ambroise Vollard. They deal with central themes in Picasso’s art such as the relationship between model, artist and work, the relationship between man and woman, and the myth of the Minotaur. This makes it a key body of work for the understanding of Picasso’s oeuvre. The Kunsthalle will exhibit one of the few complete sets of this print series worldwide.
The exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster.
