Works by Karl Blossfeldt and August Sander represent an early approach in photography influenced by New Objectivity. And artists such as Thomas Struth, Candida Höfer, or Axel Hütte stand for the internationally renowned Dusseldorf School of Photography that was founded by Bernd and Hilla Becher. Acquisitions of works by Michael Wesely, Stefan Panhans, or Heidi Specker illustrate recent developments in German photography.

We are also in the process of building up a collection of international photography. Currently it boasts artists such as Nan Goldin, Boris Michailov, or Eskö Männikö with series of their works.

Our photography collection is likewise a documentation of the various genres such as landscape, portrait, or still lifes with works by Olafur Eliasson, self-portraits by the French performance artist Orlan, or the photographs of Thorsten Brinkmann.
