Between Collection and Renovation –
The Kunsthalle zu Kiel exhibits at the Landeshaus
05. October 2026 / 04:00 PM - 05:00 PM
with Dr Telse Wolf-Timm
As part of their joint series ‘Kulturland Schleswig-Holstein’, the State Parliament and the Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein (IB.SH) are presenting a guest exhibition from the Kunsthalle zu Kiel. Whilst the Kiel museum is undergoing renovation, a selection from its collection is on display at the Landeshaus.
The exhibition combines two perspectives: it takes the temporary closure of the Kunsthalle as an opportunity to look back on the eventful history of the museum on Düsternbrooker Weg – which opened in 1909 – and its building. Historical photographs and documents from the archives of the Kunsthalle and the Schleswig-Holstein Art Association trace the development of the institution from its beginnings to the present day.
These records of the museum’s history are juxtaposed with selected paintings, sculptures and photographs from the Kunsthalle’s collection. The works feature diverse references to themes such as architecture, construction and building. They offer different perspectives on the built environment and the question of how people design and use spaces. The selection ranges from art of the late 19th century to the present day and illustrates the rich diversity of the collection. In this way, the exhibition combines historical insights with a journey through around a hundred years of art history.
