Open Group. Repeat After Me II

The Kunsthalle zu Kiel is showing the video installation *Repeat After Me II* by the Ukrainian artist collective Open Group at the Flandernbunker, which addresses Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. In the films, civilian witnesses imitate the sounds of war – such as drones, air-raid sirens, tanks, missiles and defence systems – from memory. These sounds coalesce into a haunting soundscape that is both moving and makes one’s own powerlessness palpable; through the karaoke-style setup in the space, it potentially turns visitors into imitators themselves whilst encouraging conscious listening.

Our live speakers invite you to explore the exhibition through conversation, ask questions, learn about the background, and reflect on and share your own perceptions of the Open Group’s sound and video work *Repeat After Me II*.

Content Note
The interactive multimedia installation on the war in Ukraine is presented in a historic bunker. The interplay of sound recordings and the spatial effects can make for an intense experience. It may trigger feelings of unease, anxiety or distressing memories in sensitive or traumatised individuals.
