Favourite pieces!
The Kunsthalle zu Kiel as a guest at the Museumsberg Flensburg
until 1 December 2026
A dozen hand-picked masterpieces from Kiel's painting collection are guests at the Museumsberg Flensburg while the Kunsthalle zu Kiel is being completely renovated.
The presentation of the valuable loans is entitled Favourite Pieces, and that is no coincidence. Museum director Michael Fuhr really was allowed to choose his favourites from the wonderful Kiel collection. For the next five years, precious works by great painters such as Emil Nolde, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Asger Jorn have now taken their place among the paintings in the Flensburg collection. The spectrum ranges from Dutch Baroque still lifes to 19th century portraits and landscapes to icons of classical modernism. All twelve loans are hung in such a way that they enter into a dialogue with the Flensburg collection and thus open up new contexts for visitors. A whole new room has even been created for the circular painting The Hermit by Albert Aereboe.
