Of Princesses and Citizen's Daughters

A cabinet exhibition of the Schleswig-Holstein Art Association

On the occasion of its 175th anniversary, the exhibition featured early gifts to the Schleswig-Holsteinischer Kunstverein that are still among the most important works in the museum's holdings. These include two portraits of women by Georg Friedrich Kersting. Also on display were portraits of women from the collection of the Kunsthalle zu Kiel and a loan from Eutin Castle. All the works combined the depiction of social conventions and contemporary taste with unusual perspectives on female role models.
